Agricultural Manufacturers of Canada (AMC) Launches Innovative Careers in Ag Mobile Skills Lab

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – July 23, 2024 – Agricultural Manufacturers of Canada (AMC) is thrilled to announce the successful launch of the Careers in Ag Mobile Skills Lab officially opening on Tuesday, July 16th at Ag in Motion in Langham, SK. A press conference was held in conjunction with Ag in Motion’s 10th Anniversary followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event was attended by industry leaders, government officials, Careers in Ag sponsors, AMC members and other guests.

Donna Boyd, President of AMC, spoke about the association’s excitement in spearheading the project at the official opening of the Mobile Skills Lab. “Today we share our exuberance with you as we launch the first of its kind in Canada Mobile Skills Lab as part of AMC’s Careers in Ag initiative. This Mobile Skills Lab is equipped with virtual reality technology and experiential learning stations and will travel throughout the province of Saskatchewan, engaging with schools, career fairs, trade shows, and community events. The goal is to showcase exciting career opportunities in agriculture, provide insights into diverse career pathways, and offer ongoing professional development opportunities for those already in the sector.”

A few of the key speakers, includes: Rob O’Connor, Show Director of Ag in Motion; The Honorable David Marit, Minister of Agriculture for Saskatchewan; Bob Cochran, AMC Board Chair, Director Highline Brand, Highline Manufacturing; and Richelle Andreas, President and CEO S3 Group Ltd. spoke to the importance of careers in the agriculture industry, one that protects the environment, ensures global food security and fuels the future of food through innovation. They also shared appreciation for the valuable collaboration between industry, academia and government and the benefits of this innovative mobile unit to help attract the talent needed to support the agriculture industry’s growth.

The Honorable David Marit, Minister of Agriculture, addressed the audience at the unveiling of the Mobile Skills Lab. “We started this discussion two years ago with the idea for this mobile unit that could promote the ag opportunities in Saskatchewan. It is a great opportunity for young people in Saskatchewan to grab onto careers in the ag sector.” He also shared that from 2018 to 2023 the agricultural manufacturing exports have more than doubled. “This shows that the technology is reaching around the world, and we are very proud of that.”

After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees had the opportunity to tour the facility and witness demonstrations of the cutting-edge technology and training programs that will be available.

The innovative Mobile Skills Lab, designed to promote careers in agriculture and agriculture manufacturing, is made possible thanks to the funding from the Government of Saskatchewan and key sponsors S3 Group Ltd., CLAAS of America Inc., The CWB Welding Foundation, Rapid 3D Ltd and Regina Work Prep Centre.

“Agricultural manufacturing is a fast-growing industry that plays a crucial role in our province’s growing economy,” Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison said. “Investments in innovative programs, like AMC’s Mobile Career Lab, showcase emerging career opportunities in the industry, and further position Saskatchewan to attract the talent needed for continued growth”

The Mobile Skills Lab represents a significant step forward in efforts to attract and train the next generation of agricultural professionals. This mobile unit will travel throughout Saskatchewan and various events visiting schools, career fairs, trade shows, and communities to showcase the exciting career opportunities available in the industry. Regardless of one’s background or knowledge of agriculture or manufacturing, everyone will have the opportunity to learn, grow and most importantly, be inspired to pursue a rewarding career.
